Legal Officer
Ms. Karen Thompson-Wilson is an Attorney-at-law with significant experience in both public and private practice.
Prior to coming to the Jamaica Mortgage Bank, Ms. Thompson-Wilson was engaged as Senior Legal Advisor to the Minister of Justice and Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Ministry of Justice. In this role, she contributed significantly to the work of the Ministry of Justice and was particularly instrumental in the negotiations with and contracting of professionals in the built environment for the various construction projects undertaken by the Ministry of Justice. Additionally, she has extensive experience in conveyancing and mortgage lending from having worked at the National Housing Trust and the Victoria Mutual Building Society.
Armed with an LLM in Corporate and Commercial Law and professional qualifications in Project Management, Risk Management, Legal Project Management, Contract Management, Mortgage Lending, International Dispute Resolution, Public Policy, Transformational Leadership, Corporate Governance, Creative Problem Solving and Analytical Thinking, among other areas, Ms. Thompson-Wilson has been serving the Government of Jamaica for over 15 years with her skills and expertise.
Ms. Thompson-Wilson is a Mediator, a Justice of the Peace and a Notary Public. Prior to taking up her duties at the Jamaica Mortgage Bank, she sat as a member of the General Legal Council, the Board of the Legal Aid Council, the Board of the Kingston Legal Aid Clinic, the Board of the Dispute Resolution Foundation, the Parish Court Rules Committee, the Legal and Regulatory Sub-Committee of the Cannabis Licensing Authority, the Criminal Case Management Steering Committee of the Supreme Court, the Committee of Examiners under the Electricity Act Regulations, and serves as a Law Commissioner.
A part from her passion for law, Ms. Thompson-Wilson loves reading and experimenting with food. She lives by the philosophy that life always works out.
